The University of Texas at El Paso, also known as UTEP, was originally known as The Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy. Their athletic teams are still known as the Miners and their mascot is Paydirt Pete.  In 1967 the school changed its name to the University of Texas at El Paso and today it houses a wide variety of degree programs, ranging from Nursing and Allied Health to Civil Engineering and Computer Science.
